Hubert Lagardelle

Hubert Lagardelle (1874-1958) was a French thinker of the revolutionary Syndicalisme, one of the précuseurs of the Fascisme, and a Minister for Labor of the Régime of Vichy.

A revolutionary trade unionist

Lawyer and professor, Hubert Lagardelle is initially member of the Parti working French (Marxiste) Jules Guesde as from 1896 (it was 22 years old). Then it founds the socialist Mouvement (1899-1914), re-examined theoretical of the revolutionary trade unionism which remains a reference in the history of French socialism. Lagardelle is influenced by the theories of Proudhon. Militant of the CGT, it is favorable to the General strike (against the more moderate theories of Jean Jaurès). In 1905, he is opposed to Jaurès in connection with the name " party Socialist-SFIO" to which he prefers the name of " party ouvrier". In 1908, Lagardelle breaks definitively with Jean Jaurès on the question of the relation between the trade union and the party.

Fascistic drift

Like other revolutionary trade unionists or members of the left wing of the labor movement Gustave Herve, Jean Allemane, Georges Valois, etc in France, Mussolini in Italy), Hubert Lagardelle is tried by the solutions of a Fascisme of left. In 1926, it adheres to the section of Toulouse Faisceau of Georges Valois, the first French fascistic party. Benito Mussolini writes in its " Doctrines of Fascism " (1932): " In the large river of Fascism, you will find the seams which go up in Sorel, Péguy, Lagardelle of the socialist Movement and with this group of Italian trade unionists who, from 1904 to 1914, carried a new note in the socialist mediums with paginates releases from Olivetti, Lupa d' Ornano, It Divinere social of E. Fascinated by Italian Fascism that it thus influenced, Hubert Lagardelle attends of 1932 in 1937 the ambassador from France Rome Henry de Jouvenel (where it will be itself ambassador?) in the attempt to establish a Franco-Italian alliance to make German stopping with the expansionism. It will be a waste of time and effort.

After the defeat of 1940, Lagardelle takes part in the Institute of corporative and social studies and in the French Center of synthesis. Hubert Lagardelle becomes Minister for Labor of the Régime of Vichy in the government Pierre Laval (April 1942 - November 1943). In 1943, he resigns of the government and becomes editor association of the collaborator newspaper of left socialist France . In 1946, he will be condemned to the prison with perpetuity and dies in 1958.
