Heraldic
History
Origin
The origin of the name of the city would be related to the fact that the first inhabitants would have settled with the junction of the Marne and the the Seine and that with the wire of time, the borough would have taken the name of " Maisons". The second part of the name would come from a hamlet from the commune which in the beginning (at the 12th century) was a field of Pierre d' Aigueblanche, lord of Herefort. Time passing, the name changed gradually to become Hallefort and finally Alfort.
Prehistory and Antiquity
The archaeological excavations carried out at Houses-Alfort into 1994 delivered the vestiges of a prehistoric, Neolithic and protohistoric occupation, dated between: 200000 and: 160000 years. On banks of the Marne have finds remainders of a burial, a megalith, some vestiges more with the east and some tools. An important Neolithic habitat near to the Marne, with a burial, was exhumed recently by the LDA (Departmental Laboratory of Archeology 94) then by the AFAN (Association for the national archaeological excavations). These archaeological vestiges gave important and new indices on the lifestyle of the Homme of Néandertal in the Paris basin.During the construction of the fort of Charenton at the 19th century, one made the discovery of a structure in edge of an old way, probably identifiable with a tumulus, visible relief called " Ridge of Grammont". One discovered there several burials of which some present a certain pageantry. They are datable Tène or Roman epoch.
