Houmach

Houmach or Houmash (in Hebrew: חומש ) is one of the terms employed in the Judaïsme to indicate the Pentateuque.

The word comes from the " root; Hamech (masc.)/Hamicha (fém.) " who means five Hebrew , like the five books of the Torah written, according to the Hebraic tradition, by Moïse under the inspiration of God.

Houmach generally indicates the Torah in the shape of books published for the members of a Jewish community, whereas the same text in the shape of a parchment is called Sefer Torah.

Houmach generally presents a provision of the text according to its cutting in parashiot and includes/understands sometimes the Targoum of Onqelos and the comments and interpretations in margin of the original text. The text of the Haftarah, corresponding to the passage read in complements of the parasha of each week, is also added to the collection.
