Horsemanship

The horsemanship is the Sport, the art and the technique which consist in going up and to direct a Cheval. The word horsemanship comes from Latin equitare who means to go to horse .

Specificities

This sport with the characteristic to join together in a homogeneous unit, two entities as different as an human being and a équidé, generally a Horse or a Pony. The success of the couple depends in particular on the relationship of trust and respect which is established between them.

In competition, horsemanship is one of the sports where men and women contribute to equality in common tests.

Disciplines

The equestrian sport

The Equestrian sport gathers all that relates to the races of Chevaux.

Races of trot

These races have two specialities:
  • trot harnessed : the driver (pilot) sat on the sulky tractor drawn by the horse.
  • trot assembled : this type of race exists especially in Belgium and France. The jockey (riding) sat on the back of his horse.

In trotting race, the horse must trotter as quickly as possible to rejoin the winning post without never taking the gallop under penalty of being made disqualify. In the world, there exist four official races of horses specialized in the trotting races.

Races of gallop

These races comprise two disciplines:

  • the dish : the tests dispute at distances ranging between 800 and 4.000 meters. The distance known as traditional is of 2.400 meters and the historical distance from reference is the mile English (1609 meters).
  • the obstacle : the tests dispute at distances ranging between 2.800 and 6.500 meters. The obstacle races can be races of hedges (all the obstacles are identical), of the steeplechase (at least four different obstacles on the course) or of the cross-country race (natural obstacles, longer distances).

Races of group

The races of group and the listed races are disputed by the best international horses, foal S and fillies intended for the reproduction. The horses Hongre were thus not authorized to take the departure. All the races of group represent stages of selection of horses and the Groupe I is the best category. One can however note an easing of this rule, since almost all the Listed Race , unquestionable Groupe I are opened with the hongres (Ganay Price, of Ispahan, Royal Oak,…). The rule is strict for hens of products and Derbies.

Equestrian sports

The equestrian sports gather all the sporting equestrian disciplines. There exist many other equestrian sports practiced throughout the world, some being regulated by the international equestrian Fédération (FEI), while others have a local range.

The FEI regulates and organizes international competitions of the seven disciplines among most known and most practiced in the world:

  • Attachment : the driving leads horses harnessed to a car. In competition, the groom positions in the car in such way that this one remains balanced in all circumstances.
  • complete Contest : the complete contest is practiced only in contest. Before 2004, it always gathered a test of raising , a road , a steeplechase , a cross-country race and a horse , test of Saut of obstacles specific for the complete one. Since 2004, the tests of truck driver and steeplechase were removed more important international meetings and, consequently, disappear little by little from all the other contests.
  • Raising : the result of raising is the myth of the Centaure, to do only one with its mounting. The rider seeks the harmony with its horse. The original intention of raising is to make the horses pleasant in their speciality. Whatever its discipline of equestrian sport, the rider will be devoted to raising to bind with its mounting and to improve the couple.
  • Endurance : the endurance horse is tested on long distances, up to 160 km, without speed limit. The rider must manage the effort requested from mounting at all the distance. Since the end of the Years 1970, the endurance knew a true rise to power in the European countries and Arabic.
  • Reining : the reining is one of the disciplines of Western horsemanship also said American horsemanship . It is about a horsemanship of work applied to the origin by the Cow-boy S. the reining is the reproduction as owners of movements initially intended to direct the cattle. The achievement of these movements aims at showing the psychological and physical aptitudes horse for this task.
  • Jump of obstacles : the rider and its mounting jump ent of the obstacles built with mobile bars. Its ludic and spectacular aspects as well as the simplicity of its rules return this sport attracting and explain its success mainly. Indeed, the jump of obstacles is the equestrian sport more practiced in the world.
  • Voltige Rings of it: the stunt-flying is a sport which is between horsemanship, the Gymnastique and the Acrobatie. It consists in carrying out, individually or in team, of the figures on a horse skirted at constant intervals on a circle. This displine with the characteristic to include, in addition to the rider and its mounting, another actor quite as important: the longor.

The horsemanship of leisure

The horsemanship of leisure is doubtless the most practiced equestrian discipline. It is difficult to count the number of followers since this type of horsemanship does not require membership of a club or an association. The rider can walk or randonner to horse in the same way that a person walks or randonne with Bicyclette or foot.

The horsemanship of leisure can be also practiced in horse-gear or career.

Equestrian spectacles

Formerly limited to the one of the many numbers of the spectacles of Circus, the equestrian spectacle has more and more troops completely dedicated to the horse. Y are practiced all kinds of horsemanship, the high school in many forms such as for example without saddle and bit, of the cascades, the stunt-flying in line, etc

Horsemanship in France

The France account more than one million riders of which the half have a license of the French federation of horsemanship. First employer of the sporting sector, horsemanship generates: 60000 employment in the sector for: 6000 riding schools and: 50000 stockbreeders. Approximately: 200000 horses and ponies are present in the riding schools, quantifies for which it is advisable to add the horses lodged by the private individuals. France is the first European nation of equestrian tourism.

At the sporting level, approximately: 5000 contests are organized every year. The French federation of horsemanship is the fourth Olympic federation by its number of bachelors, with the characteristic to have a strong majority of women. Sporting horsemanship generated thirty-three Olympic medals since the creation of the Olympic Games
