Horace ( Horace Horsecollar in VO) is a Personnage of fiction created by Ub Iwerks in 1929 for Walt Disney.
This horse is promised in marriage of the cow Clarabelle Cow and one of the best friends of Mickey Mouse. It begins like draft horse from Mickey in Mickey plowman ( The Plow Boy ) in 1929, then the same year in The Jazz Fool , before becoming a regular supporting character as well as Clarabelle, Clara Cluck and others. Presented like a merry " Mister-I-know-tout" , it accompanies Mickey during its adventures as cartoons before Dingo does not take his place. Recently, it appeared in Mickey Mouse Works (1999-2001) and Disney' S All out of box (2000-03).
Horace in animation
Horace and Clarabelle appeared in more cartoons than one does not think. In fact, the two characters were stars major until the medium of the Années 1930 before disappearing in 1942, the cow slightly exceeding its in love in popularity. Both were however supplanted by Dingo, not because they were less interesting but because the teams of Disney put this last ahead as well in the cartoons as in the Cartoons.
At the beginning of their careers, Clarabelle and Horace showed a capacity out it common to pass from the statute of animals of firm commun runs to that of characters Anthropomorphique S. Whereas it still goes on its four legs during its first appearances, it is rectified quickly and its front legs gain gloves. But it reappears sometimes in simple horse as in Hunting for the fox (1938). Its character however forever be also thorough only " Fab Five" (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Nutcase, Pluto). Following the example Nutcase during his first appearances under the name of " Dippy" , its body seems to be made of a rubber tube.
It reappears in 1983 in Christmas de Mickey ( Mickey' S Christmas Carol ) then in 1988 in Which wants the skin of Roger Rabbit? but it is in the Prince and Poor the ( The Prince and the Pauper , 1990) which it takes down its greater role as a pontifiant tutor of Mickey.
In these last films, it is the actor Bill Farmer who lends his voice to him (it is also that of Nutcase and Pluto).
It also made a short appearance in the video games Kingdom Hearts II (the world of the Timeless Rivière ), Mickey' S Ultimate Challenge and Land off Illusion .

Horace as cartoons
Although it was the high-speed motorboat in Europe of many stories at the sides of Clarabelle, in the United States it never exceeded the stage of supporting character. It appeared however systematically in the Années 1950, 1960 and 1970 with Clarabelle, Clara Cluck, Dingo, Minnie and Mickey, in spite of a disappearance during one brief moment, towards the end of the year 1960, when Clarabelle started to leave with Dingo. But this relation is quickly upset by a new arrival called Glory-Bee, pushing Clarabelle to be turned over towards its old love.
