Honolulu
The town of Honolulu is the capital and more the big city of the State of Hawaii, with the the United States. In language hawaiienne, honolulu means “sheltered bay” or “a place of shelter”. It is located on the south-eastern coast of the island of Oahu. In 2005 Honolulu has a population of 377.379 inhabitants for the city and 905.266 for the agglomeration (estimate of the office of American census, US Census).
Honolulu is of world famous for its tourist district on the beach of Waikiki, and for the volcanic crater Diamond Head. Honolulu is the seat of the principal campus of the University of Hawaii, located at Manoa, university district of the city.
History
In 1845, on decision of the king Kamehameha III, Honolulu became the capital of the Royaume of Hawaii, with the detriment of the town of Lahaina located on the island of Maui (which was capital archipelago since 1820).

Events
2006 mark the hundredth birthday of the city. The " Centennial Fair" was organized in its honor. The beginning was delayed by it because of one rain season it also out of the commun run: the modern flood; 42 days of ceaseless rains which involved floods, landslides, pollution of the coasts, etc
