Hombori is a village of approximately 3000 inhabitants (12 000 for the commune) located at the foot of the Mont Hombori, in the area of the Gourma, current administrative area of Mopti to the Mali.
History
Hombori is a very old village in the past populated by the
Dogons.
After the invasion of the
Almoravides, the royal family of
Gao dispersed. A part settled with the
Togo and another part with Hombori. The Songhoï, majority currently, came to populate the village subsequently.
Songhoïs collaborated with the colonizing French, contrary to dogons remained in withdrawal.
Hanging the wars or the Rezzou S carried out by the
Moors in the search of slaves, let us dogons them protected themselves while taking refuge in the mountains. Hombori is above all the capital of the hidden power of the empire Songhoï and also a strategic point to conquer the south of Mali. This explains the establishment of the village of Hombori in height. Certain villages difficult neighborhoods of access (Tabi to 30 km) never were not colonized and preserved their intact culture.
