The department of the Corrèze, created in 1790, rested since the High Middle Ages on four distinct seigniories. This unit, called the Low-Limousin, belonged to the government of the the Limousin. It was composed of:

  • the Viscount of Turenne (in South-east), independent until in 1738,
  • the Viscount of Ventadour (in the East),
  • the Viscount of Comborn (center-North),
  • part of the Viscount of Ségur, around Pompadour and Ségur (in the North-West).
