Hero of the Soviet Union

Héros of the Soviet Union (Геро́йСове́тскогоСою́за) was the most honorary title and the supreme degree of distinction of old the Soviet Union. He included the Ordre of Lénine and, like signs excellence, the Médaille of gold star with the certificate of the heroic achievement ( gramota ) of the Præsidium of the Supreme Soviet (the body having the most executive power on the territory). The reward was established the April 16th 1934. Women, in particular of the soldates, were high there.

The majority of the 12.500 people who were accepted it during the Second world war.

The first member elects were the pilots Liapidevsky, Levaniévsky, Molokov, Slepniov, Vodopianov, Doronine and Kamanine which took part successfully in the air research and with the rescue of the crew of the ice-breaker Chéliouskine which ran in water Arctique S, crushed by the fields of Glace the February 13rd 1934.

There was more than one hundred pilot heroes of which the fighter pilots Pokrychkine and Kojiédoub. The only men to receive the title four times were the marshal Joukov and Brejnev.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the title which succeeded to him in Russia is that of Héros of Russia.
