Hermann Schalow is a banker and a ornithologist German amateur , born in 1852 and died in 1925 in the town of Berlin.

He studied at Jean Louis Cabanis (1816-1906) and worked with Anton Reichenow (1847-1941). Between 1894 and 1907, he was Vice-président, and of 1907-1921 President de Deutsche Ornithologen-Gesellschaft (Company of Ornithologes German).

He is in particular the author of Die Musophagidae (1886) and Beiträge zur Vogelfauna der Mark Brandenburg (1919). Schalow also devotes a monograph on the birds of the Arctic, Die Vögel der Arktis (1905) and there described 270 S. It ensures the edition of the account of voyage of Richard Böhm (1854-1884) in West Africa, in Zanzibar and Tanganika: Von Sansibar zum Tanganjika, Briefe aus Ostafrika von Dr. Richard Böhm (J.A. Brockhaus, Leipzig, 1888).

The Muséum of natural history of Berlin baptized a library in its honor.
