Herbault

Herbault is a common French, located in the department of Loir-et-Cher and the area Center. Its inhabitants is the Herbaltois .

Geography

The commune is located at 17 km in the west of Blois, in the vicinity immediate of the highway A10 (without being however directly served by the highway, the exchangers closest being those to Blois while going up towards Orleans or Castle-Renault while going down towards Tours).

History

Herbault has a recent historical past. The commune is created about 1700 by Charles Dodun, owner of the castle and Minister for Finance of Louis XV. Charles Dodun made build an attic with salt (the current town hall) and Herbault made great great strides thanks to the perception of the Gabelle. The presence of a market and a score of inns took part in the development. The church Saint Martin was built of 1787 to 1791.
