Henry de Pène

Henry de Pène is a writer and journalist French, born the April 25th 1830 with Paris and deceased the January 25th 1888 in the same city.

Biography

Henry de Pène was the son of Dominique-Achilles Pène (1794-1866), owner of the castle of Argagnon and the Forges of Banca (Yrénées-Atlantiques) and racketeer with Paris, and of Caroline Delatte (c.1804-1855). After brilliant studies with the Rollin college, Henry de Pène made his right all while devoting himself to painting.

He devoted himself very early to political journalism and collaborated in the Event with the son of Victor Hugo, with the Public opinion in 1849, then with various publications of which Le Figaro , where he signed his chronicle “Némo”, the Gallic , that he had founded in 1868, and Paris-Newspaper . He also wrote chronicles, novels, in particular the Mémoires of a chambermaid , and a biography of the count de Chambord. Henry de Pène was endowed with a facility of writing remarkable, never not erasing a manuscript and able to write with him only a whole newspaper.

The burning royalist convictions of Henry de Pène led it to attack the Republic until the end of its life. It was also a man of honor, which had in 1858 a double resounding duel with two officers, which it left seriously wounded. Savagely hostile with the Common of Paris, it was wounded at the time of a demonstration, street of Peace, in Paris, the March 22nd 1871. It accepted under benefit of inventory, in 1866, the succession of his father who was ruined following unhappy businesses; he worked then hard to refund the creditors.

Henry Pène was also made call Henry de Pène of Argagnon, of the name of the castle, which his/her father had, in Béarn. He had preserved a certain attachment for the province of origin of his paternal family.
