Henry Roth is an American writer born the February 8th 1906 in Tysmenitz, Galicie, deceased the October 13rd 1995 with Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the the United States.

Biography

Henry Roth is an American novelist, of Jewish confession. Born in Galicie, at the time province of the Empire Austro-Hungarian, he emigrates with the the United States at the three years age with his family. He passes his childhood within the Jewish community of New York. Its first novel, the Gold of the promised land ( Cal it sleep ), is published into 1934 which passes unperceived. Moreover, roof of bad luck, its editor goes bankrupt. Henry Roth then leaves side his literary ambitions. He marries, in 1939, Muriel Parker, girl of Pasteur Baptist and pianist who will give up his career to accompany it in the State by the Maine where he exerts several trades (forester, male nurse in a psychiatric hospital, helps plumber…).

The couple with his/her two children, ends up being established in a farm in 1954 and lives of a goose breeding and ducks as well as wages of teacher of Muriel Parker. Henry Roth sinks in a chronic depression. It is in 1964, that is to say thirty years afterwards, that the Gold of the promised land is republished and sold to more than one million specimens. This unexpected success makes it possible the Roth family to move with the New Mexico and convinces the author to recover to write in 1979. In 1994, sixty years were then passed since the publication of its first novel when At the thank you of a current violates leaves in bookstore.

The novel of Henry Roth is the history of its own life. It is marked by a miséreuse childhood under the influence of an orthodoxe Jewish tradition which chokes it and the complex in its relationship with the outside world. He saw the cultural heritage badly and does not manage to assume it. With the passing of its 80 years, the insurance to harm nobody more, the author describes his reports/ratios tormented with its family and reveals a incestueuse relation with his/her sister. An awakening denatured with the sexuality whose echo is propagated all its life and in its reports/ratios in love. Work remains unfinished when he dies on October 13rd, 1995, in Albuquerque; of the six volumes considered, four were published.
