Henry James Morgan (November 14th 1842 - December 27th 1913) was a writer, an editor and a Canadian civil servant.

Born in Quebec, parents Scot, he worked with the legislative Assemblée of Low-Canada after the death of his mother. Initially page, he was corresponding member of Parliament and clerk, but he then chooses to study with the Collège Morrin.

Appointed secretary of Isaac Buchanan and William McDougall in 1864, it made its right to the college McGill and entered to the Barrreau of Ontario and the Quebec. Having chosen to continue its career in the Public office, it helped Douglas Brymner to found the public records and collaborated gathering the documents of the State.

Become Made as a chief, it was wrongfully shown to have taken for itself of the Public funds. The apparent political competitions obliged it to spend several years of its life to refute the allegations. Morgan preferred however to devote the remainder of its life to the writing.

In 1862, it made appear Sketches off celebrated Canadians , a book detailing the personality notorious of the country. Until 1876, it published The Canadian parliamentary companion , a guide of all the Canadian legislative assemblies which informed about the majority of the politicians. Its methods of edition become more systematic then. Of 1878 with 1886, he is also the author of the Dominion year register , a statement of the public affires of the nation.

Its principal work is however its Bibliotheca canadensis , a useful resource to know the Canadian Littérature of the time and which includes writings of all kinds. Moreover, Morgan is the author of homages to Charles Tupper, Lord Elgin and Benjamin Sulte. Nourished of a patriotic pride, it was not obstructed to criticize Louis-Joseph Papineau to have wanted to abolish the union.

Member of the movement Canada First, it had to leave the movement when it realized that its employment in the public office was precarious. He took care thereafter not to come to a conclusion too much about the life of the public men whom he described. Morgan was also interested in the life of the women of her time by publishing Types off Canadian women in Toronto in 1903. While mentioning the names of their husbands, it aimed at renting the public action of the women who made grow the country.

Member elect of an honorary doctorate in right to the college of Ottawa in 1903 and of an honorary doctorate in Civil law with the King' S College of Windsor in 1904, it was elected member of the royal Société of Canada during the same year. He had continued to write at each day at the time of his death the December 27th 1913. He is buried with the Cimetière Beechwood in Ottawa.
