Henry Clay (April 12th 1777 in Virginia - June 29th 1852) was an American politician, a senator and one of the greatest American political figures of first half of the 19th century.
There was the author of famous the Compromis of 1820 and remains known in the History like the “Large peacemaker” ( the Great compromiser ).
It began with the bar; was elected in 1803 member of the Room of the Kentucky, in 1806 member of the senate of Washington; became then member of the Room of the representatives of the United States, then finally president of this body.
It formed part in 1814 of the commission sent to Ghent to negotiate peace with the Great Britain; was named in 1825, by president J.Q. Adams, secretary of foreign affairs; in 1828 the voices for the presidency with the Jackson general divided, again put on the rows in 1833, 1836 and 1844 without more success.
It withdrew some time of the businesses after these successive failures, but returned there as of 1846 like deputy of the Kentucky to the senate; and there until in 1851 remained, exerting the greatest influence. Of a reconciling nature, H. Clay succeeds twice, in 1820 and 1850, while making adopt happy compromise, to prevent an imminent conflict between the States with slaves and the States free trade S.
