Henri III of the Brabant
Henri III of the Brabant , known as Débonnaire , born towards 1231, died in Leuwen the February 28th 1261, was duke of the Brabant of 1248 with 1261. It was wire of Henri II, duke of the Brabant, and Marie de Hohenstaufen.
It made its first weapons at the sides of his relative Guillaume of Holland, elected king of the Romans, with the conquest of the Holy roman Empire and witnessed its crowning on November 1st 1248 with Aachen. But it did not take part in the War of succession of Flanders and Hainaut in which the son and the brother-in-law of the emperor were implied, and was combined with their enemy, Guillaume III of Dampierre, count de Flandre, which became his/her brother-in-law. He especially sought to ensure peace in old the Lotharingie and reached that point successfully, in spite of the hatred who opposed Dampierre to Avesnes, then the disorders who followed the death of Guillaume of Holland and the confrontations between its two successors in competition, Richard de Cornouailles and Alphonse X of Castille. Patient, it signed in 1261 on his bed of dead a charter granting more legal rights on his subjects brabançons.
