Henning Fritz

Biography

He is regarded as one of best the goalkeeper of the world. After beginnings in Magdeburg, its birthplace, with the club of the SC Magdeburg with which he becomes champion of Germany in 2001 and obtains two cuts EHF, he joined then the club of THW Kiel obtaining two new titles in 2002 and 2005, two new cuts EHF.

With its national selection, after a bronze medal with the Championships of Europe 1998, it fails finally of the Euro into 2002 vis-a-vis Sweden, then world 2003 against Croatia. The gold medal is finally acquired at the time of the Euro 2004. That places Germany among the favorites logical of the plays 2004. But it is again Croatia which puts an end to the hopes German finally.

The arrival of Thierry Omeyer in Kiel at the beginning of the season 2006 - 07 relegates it to the role of third guard of the club, behind also Swedish Mattias Andersson, who occupied already the post of first guard the former season. However, the German selector, Heiner Brand, preserve its confidence to him. Fritz takes again confidence during the preparation to the world 2007 which is held in Germany.

At the time of this competition, it is one of the major elements of the final victory of the German team, more particularly at the time of the two matches against the French, by stopping the shootings of seven meters which could have started again those at the time of the match of second turn, and while being masterly at the time of the semi-final. Its performances are rewarded by the title for better guard for the competition.
