Henan

The Henan (河南, hénán in Pinyin, “in the south of the river”) is a province located at the east of the China.

History

The Yellow River, one of the two larger rivers of China, crosses the north of Henan. This river is called the river mother by the Chinese, because the ethnos group Han (92% of the Chinese population) and its civilization had been born around the river. Henan is one of the cradles of Chinese civilization, thanks to its fertile favorable climate and its grounds. In the Chinese history, several dynasties chose the cities of Henan like their capitals, like Luoyang, Kaifeng, Xuchang, Anyang.

Economy

Today, Henan is always one of the agricultural provinces, its importance dropped much since a hundred years, because of its geographical position and its population mainly rural.

Moslems of the province

Several clashes have opposed for a few years Hans and the Doors. Between the 27 and on October 31st, 2004, confrontations violent one opposed thousands of peasants Moslem of the ethnos group Hui to other peasants of the majority ethnos group Han, making several deaths and wounded. The Chinese authorities recognized these riots as well as the assessment of 7 died and 42 wounded. According to a local journalist questioned by the AFP, “a total” of 150 people could have been killed and wounded.

Scandal of contaminated blood

In the Years 1990, many people were contaminated by HIV (virus of the AIDS) by the network of blood transfusion set up at Henan. It is estimated that in certain villages, the “villages AIDS”, up to 80% of the people were contaminated.
