Helmut Kohl , born the April 3rd 1930 with Ludwigshafen on the the Rhine, is a German politician (Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands, CDU) and was federal Chancelier of the West Germany, then of Germany reunified of 1982 to 1998. He was married in Hannelore Kohl († 2001).

Biography

  • April 3rd 1930: birth with Ludwigshafen on the the Rhine
  • 1946: Adhesion with the CDU (Union Christian Democrat)
  • Elected in 1959 with the Diet of the Rhineland-Palatinat like deputy of the democratic Christian union (CDU),
  • 1969: Election like Ministerpräsident (minister-president) of the Land of the Rhineland-Palatinat (1969 - 1976)
  • 1971: Defeat with Saarbrucken (at the time of the election to the presidency of CDU against To groove Barzel).
  • June 12th 1973: Election like chair of CDU.
  • 1975 : First candidature for the federal post of chancellor.
  • October 1976: It has an important but insufficient success to reverse the Socialist-liberal coalition: demolished CDU/CSU with the federal elections, Kohl takes the direction of the opposition and gives its station of Ministerpräsident.
  • 1980 : Defeat at the time of the primary educations of its party for the post of chancellor against Franz-Josef Strauß
  • October 5th 1980: Defeat of the CDU/CSU to the federal elections. Kohl remains the chief of the opposition.
  • October 1st 1982: It succeeds Helmut Schmidt (Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands, SPD) following a vote of not-confidence which supports its political increase.
  • March 29th 1983: Re-election at the federal post of chancellor after the victory of its allied party.
  • March 11th 1987: again, re-election at the federal post of chancellor after the victory of its allied party.
  • 1988 : It receives with François Mitterrand the price Charlemagne for “the Franco-German friendship and the future of Europe”.
  • November 9th 1989: fall of the Berlin Wall. It gets busy to implement the fast reunification of the two German States in spite of the reserves of European states like the France and the the United Kingdom.
  • January 17th 1991: Election at the federal post of chancellor of reunified Germany
  • August 11th 1991: At the time of the Putsch of Moscow, contrary to other European leaders, he does not forget to give his support initially for Gorbatchev and not for Boris Ieltsine.
  • November 15th 1994: Re-election at the federal post of chancellor.
  • October 26th 1998: Defeat of the CDU/CSU to the federal elections. Gerhard Schröder (SPD) is elected at the federal post of chancellor (Bundeskanzler).
  • 1999 until in 2002: To advise Leo Kirch.
