Helluland

Helluland is the name given to the one of the three grounds discovered in the North Atlantic by Leif Eriksson in the neighborhoods of the year 1000. Helluland is described by the Icelandic Saga S ( Eiríks saga rauða and Grœnlendinga saga ) as being a stone ground broad punts (origin of the name). The historians think that Helluland could be the Île of Baffin to the Canada.

According to the sagas, the Scandinavians would undoubtedly have established contacts with the autochtones of the Culture of Dorset to which they gave the name of Skræling S .

Helluland is the first of the three grounds visited by Leif Eriksson. As it was inhospitable, it decided not to settle there and carried on its road towards the Labrador and the Vinland.
