Heat shield

A heat shield is a device intended to protect a machine, a body, a person, of an intense heat source, this screen is made of a matter which does not fear obviously strong heats.

The corresponding terms in English are thermal screen , and heat screen .

Astronautics

A heat shield , in the field of the Astronautics, is a device intended to thermically isolate part of a Space engine.

Mechanics

In the construction of the motor vehicles, one uses heat shields in order to protect the sensitive elements from the important sources of heat: driving, Muffler, catalytic Pot. It often only of simple sheets is not interposed, which combined with a flow of air, absorb and deviate the calorific radiation.

Building

During construction or of restoration of the buildings one henceforth incorporates heat shields in the walls in order to carry out good a Thermo isolation.

Industry

In many industries, the control units as well as the men cannot remain near certain infrastructures, (Four, Laminoir S, ect), without protection, this one is ensured by heat shields.

Biology

The term “heat shield” is also used to indicate the thin layer of air with 28°C which is in contact with the skin of a human organism. This temperature of 28° is being that to which, without clothing, one is neither cold, nor hot.
