Hearts of the purgatory
the hearts of the purgatory is a news of Prosper Mérimée published in the review of the two worlds the August 15th 1834, then it tightened republished with dimensions of the great news in 1842. This news is a very rare version of the myth of Don Juan, contrary in the majority of the authors having écit on the character of Don Juan, Mérimée refers to the character of gift Juan de Maraña.
Summary
Don Juan is the hoped son of the count gift Carlos de Maraña who wants to make of him a brave man while his/her mother dreams of a son pile. It is a very spoiled child who is high in the luxury and the abundance of goods. In its youth, it was marked by a table of Moralès which represented the torments of the Purgatoire inflicted with sinners; table which decorated the oratory of the countess of Maraña, his/her mother. At ten eight years, Don Juan, gifted for the religion and the weapons but much less for Latin, was sent to Salamanque in one of the most prestigious schools of Spain. There, it became acquainted with a student who warned it of a called gift Gracia. Don Gracia proves to be the son of a friend of his father and will take Don Juan under her wing.
Together, the two men decide to allure two sisters: doña Fausta and doña Teresa de Ojeda. While trying to allure them, they are constrained to kill gift Cristoval and, instead of fleeing far, by the trick they sow their adversary. The two men will arrive to their ends. Don Juan shows himself more faithful than Don Garcia but he wearies this young girl quickly. Its illusions on the love are called into question. The two men decide to exchange their partner but Fausta alerts the house and his/her father, thinking of killing Don Juan, stabs his daughter. Don Juan, in her escape, assassinates the father of Fausta. The two men must leave the country; they decide from to go away in Flandres on the face.
The two lords act then under the orders of the Gomare captain who with his death bequeaths his money to Don Juan so that it makes him a Christian burial. We can see that Don Juan is not pile but which it has fear of the hell. Moreover, it inspires confidence not so much by its word but by comparison with his companion. Don Gracia decides to spend all the money of the commander to the play. They must leave to the face and Don Gracia is killed.
Don Juan decides to turn over in Spain, with Seville. It falls ill and draws up the list of all its conquests as well as professions of their husbands. One of his/her friends then points out to him that there is only one woman of god whom it did not mislead yet; he then decides to allure a nun. Sunday, with the church, it finds a fort with its taste of it and tries to approach it. Don Juan realizes that the nun is not other than doña Teresa which refuses to be let allure by his/her former lover; it communicates by message and Don Juan does not cease referring to the Cid of Corneille. It finishes by him yielding by setting up a strategy to make it leave the convent. While waiting for doña Teresa, Don Juan attends her own burial, it takes fear and falls ill it makes call a priest to be confessed. This man advises repentance immediately to him; what it does. We see here the major point of rupture between the two versions of the myth of gift Juan; that of Mérimée goes repentance whereas that of Molière or Mozart will die.
As we said, Don Juan decides to return in the orders, it sells its goods and makes build a vault and a hospital. But although it decided to stop fighting, an unknown, named gift Pedro de Ojeda, come to avenge his/her father and his sisters, causes it in duel and gift Juan cannot resist. And whereas it did not practice the weapons any more for a long time it gains the duel. The higher father, to avoid tarnishing the reputation of his kind, hides the business with all and gift juan, from now on Ambroise brother in the orders, finishes his life in this abbey. With its death, they is made bury with the foot of the furnace bridge of the vault which it made build with for epitaph: “Aqui yacen los huesos there cenizas LED peor hombre that ha habido in el mundo. Ruegen has Dios por él. ” (here puts back the bones and ashes of the worst man who was in the world. Request God for him).
