The headlight of the Quay Valin in the Old man-Port of La Rochelle is a headlight of alignment of recent construction.

It is located at the edge of one of the three basins which forms the historical Port of the city, whose channel is delimited by the Tour of the Chain and the Tour Saint Nicolas's Day.

History

  • About 1363, construction of the tower Garrot included in the enclosing wall of the city.

  • In 1445, it was rebuilt and a lantern was installed at its top in 1468.
  • In 1476, it is definitively finished and takes the name of Tour of the lantern.
  • In 1670, it undergoes repairs.
  • In 1852, it is equipped with a white fixed light.
  • In 1937, fire becomes a white fire with 2 screenings all the 6 S and it is electrified.

Current headlight

The headlight of the Valin Quay is an octagonal white smooth stone tower coupled with the frontage of a house on two levels with a roof in Mansart.

It is at the edge of the wet dock.

It is automated. Not guarded, he does not visit himself.

He is assisted by red light, on the other side of the basin, near of the Saint Nicolas's Day Tower.
