The history of the haut-sorabe in Germany started with the migrations Slaves during the 6th century. Since the 12th century, there was a massive flow rural Germanic colonists of Flanders, of Saxony, Thuringe and Franconie. The preceding devastation of the country by wars marked the beginning of the decrease of the haut-sorabe. Moreover, in Saxony, the sorabe was legally subordinated to the German . Later, of prohibitions were implemented: in 1293, the sorabe was interdict with the castle of Bern, in 1327 it was interdict with Zwickau and Leipzig, and as from 1424 with Meißen. Moreover, in much of guilds in the cities one accepted only the German-speaking ones. The area of current the Lusace was affected relatively little by the establishments of German-speaking and the legal restrictions. The haut-sorabe thus thrived here. Until the 17th century, the number of speakers of the haut-sorabe increased there until more 300  000.
