Haren (Brussels)

Haren (formerly Haeren, in the past Haaren), like Laeken (Laken) and Neder-Over-Heembeek, is an old commune of the North-East of the Région of Brussels-Capital (code postal: B-1130); it was attached to the town of Brussels in 1921.
SNCB and the STIB use the Haren orthography as well in French as in Dutch. La Poste sometimes used the Haeren orthography in its list of French-speaking zip codes but legally this orthography does not exist any more, even if some think that it would have to be reintroduced to avoid confusing the old commune of Brussels with the hamlet of Haren to Belgian Limbourg (ex common of Bommershoven) which was very briefly a center of new commune, before being cancelled but which created many other confusions.
This commune shelters in particular many companies having a strong economic weight in Brussels (but often allotted to the common neighbor of Evere), important infrastructures ferrovières (majority of the old station of formation known as of Schaerbeek, central workshops of Infrabel, etc), the remainders of the old aerodrome of Haren (which saw the creation of the SABENA), as well as the seat of NATO, the head office of Eurocontrol, etc
Haren saw large a Discrimination, indeed the various capacities never tightened the hand with this entity, and due: the common one kept the image of a Flemish country commune in which mainly Flemish were, which is statistically false because today this ex common would count nothing any more but 25% of Néerlandophone. For the French-speaking politicians there is no electoral interest, the media (French-speaking and even Dutch-speaking) persistent to believe that Haren is in Flanders and thus allot its districts and companies to the common neighbors!
Harenois live the same problems today as all the communes: unemployment, precariousness, housing… but have less listening. Cash for Brussels-City, Haren saw a second main issue it is locked up between Evere and Machelen, the neighbouring commune, the authorities thus do not have a constant glance on the commune.
Haren is served by two stagnation points of SNCB: Haren-South on the line Brussels - Leuwen and Haren (sometimes called Haren-Lime) on line 26 (belt is of Brussels which connects the Flemish cities of Malines, Vilvorde and Hal. There be formerly also of the stations Haren-North (disappeared, today: Machelen) and Haren-Buda (today: Buda).
Haren is a locality victim of the noise pollutions caused by the Aéroport of Brussels.
According to the statistics of 2003, Haren counted 3  more or less; 549 inhabitants. In 2005, the inhabitants of Haren are 4269
