Hans Memling
Hans Memling is a German painter , then Flemish, born with Seligenstadt towards 1435 - 1440 and died with Bruges in 1494.
Biography
Painter of great reputation of alive sound, as well with Bruges as in Italy, Germany or England, then forgotten during several centuries, Hans Memling was redécouvert at the beginning of the 19th century by the Germans, in particular by Schlegel. Appreciated crowd, low esteem by the historians of art, it occupies today a particular place among the Primitifs Flemish. Heir to Rogier van der Weyden, it incarnates a happy medium, a kind of classicism which moves by its simplicity and its smoothness. Its art excels in two fields: serenity and sweetness. It is the serenity of its artistic design which strikes as of the access, when his two most authentic tables are considered: The Virgin among Saints and the Worship from the Magi, both preserved as of their clothes industry at the Midsummer's Day Hospital, of Bruges.
