Hannon Large the was a rich person aristocrat Carthaginian of the III E.
The richness of Hannon came from the grounds which it had in North Africa. During the First Punic War, it directed the faction of Carthage opposed to the continuation of the war against Rome. He preferred to continue to conquer territories in Africa rather than to carry out a naval war against Rome which would not bring any profit. In its efforts, he was opposed to the Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca. Hannon demobilized the Carthaginian marine in 244 av. J. - C., leaving time to Rome to rebuild its marine and to demolish finally Carthage in 241 av. J. - C..
After the war, Hannon refused to pay the mercenaries to which Hamilcar had promised money and rewards. Those revolted and Hannon took the control of the Carthaginian army in order to overcome them. These attempts failed and it returned the command of the army in Hamilcar. Finally, they cooperated to demolish the rebels in 238 av. J. - C..
Its nickname " Grand" he was apparently allotted because of its conquests against the African enemies of Carthage. During the Second Punic War, it directed the faction pro-Roman of Carthage, and was opposed to the sending reinforcements with Hannibal, the son of Hamilcar, after his victory with the Bataille of Cannes. After the final defeat of Zama in 202 av. J. - C., it was one of the ambassadors sent to negotiate peace with the Romans.
