Hannibal Lecter

Hannibal Lecter is a character of fiction created by Thomas Harris in the Red novel Dragon in 1981. He is the central protagonist of the novels and the films éponymes which were adapted by it.

Biography

Genesis of a killer

Hannibal Lecter was born in Lithuania with Vilnius in a family from the old Baltic nobility the January 20th 1933. The life of the future psychopathe rocks during the rout of the German army: schutzmannschaften assassinate his/her young sister and devour her body. A predator out-standard was born.

However, progressively, a complicity will be established between two so different and yet so similar beings.

The girl of the senator Martin was removed by “Buffalo Bill”, an insane killer having already made five victims. There should not be 6th and Hannibal has the capacity to avoid the discovery of a new corpse, because he knows the name of the assassin. But it will not give it for nothing. He wants a window, a landscape. Clarice Starling makes a can offer to him but Lecter learns it by Chilton which makes him in its turn an offer, this real time.

But its past catches up with it later ten years. An old victim, Mason Orchard, a billionaire terribly disfigured by Lecter, tighten a trap with Hannibal.

The cannibal in love

Once again, the ways of Lecter and Starling cross. Clarice, put on leave of the FBI and under the blow of an investigation following a bur, indeed saves Hannibal of the claws of Orchard but is wounded in the operation and fall unconscious. It is Hannibal which saves the life to him and collects it in the country house of Paul Krendler, of the ministry for justice.

Lecter, which had fallen in love with it, invites it to a “romantic” dinner. To dine in which Paul, who will taste, not without regaling itself will take part, its own brain. Differences between the novels and films

There exist notable differences between Doctor Hannibal Lecter such as there appears in the trilogy of Thomas Harris, and such as it is put in scene in films. It is certain that its popularity must much with the duet of actors of 1991, Sir Anthony Hopkins in the role of Hannibal and Jodie Foster in that of Clarice, so much so that one forgot of it the Sixth Direction of 1986 and that a new adaptation of red Dragon left in 2002 with Anthony Hopkins.

In the novel Hannibal , Thomas Harris thought of the adaptation to the cinema and thought that Hopkins would not play, but that Jodie Foster would take again the role of Clarice. Also, in this novel whose action is supposed to take place ten years after the Silence of the lambs , is it says that Hannibal Lecter underwent an operation of Cosmetic surgery which made it unrecognizable, while Clarice just matured. But it was the opposite which occurred: in film of Ridley Scott, Anthony Hopkins included his role, while that of Clarice was held by Julianne Moore.

In the same way, the producers undoubtedly considered immoral the end of Hannibal , in which the two lovers leave happy food their fairy tale. In film of Ridley Scott, Hannibal makes well taste its kitchen with Clarice, but it is then restricted to try to stop it although he manages to only leave thanks to a sacrifice.

Another capital difference (and for which the scenarios have being altered) is the left hand of Lecter. Hannibal Lecter renews the stereotyped character of the Ogre and the insane Savant, and can pass for a heir to the French Arsène Lupin, imagined at the beginning of the 20th century by Maurice Leblanc, or of the young English Alex Delarge of the Clockwork orange of Anthony Burgess. Insane, it is it undoubtedly, at least in red Dragon , first opus of the trilogy, a little less in the Silence of the lambs . In these two novels, Hannibal is yet only one supporting role.

It is with the arrival of Clarice Starling in the Silence of the lambs that the psychopathe evolves/moves. The commander Pazzi is a corrupted cop. By letting Gnocco die on the ground like a dog, preventing it from posing its hands on the wound to retain blood, it shows its determination clearly and the fact that it does not want any witness.

Mason Verger is completely plugged by a thirst for vengance so much so that he believes himself higher than Hannibal thanks to his hatred towards him, but surely not thanks to more refined intelligence. Orchard will finish devoured by wild boars of two hundred and seventy kilos nourished with clear water since a few days, destiny which it held for its torturer. Hannibal will have had to only propose to the poor (and nauseated) personal doctor of Mason to push it in the enclosure while saying to him: “You will have only to say that it is me which pushed it. ” In the book, Hannibal convinces the proper sister of Orchard to kill it, with murene of this last.
