Habib Thiam

Habib Thiam (1933 -) is a politician Senegal board, Prime Minister twice, also President of the National Assembly of Senegal.

Years of training

After a schooling with Dakar, Habib Thiam continues his studies with Paris, integrating the Louis-the-Large Lycée initially, then the University and finally the National school of France of overseas (ENFOM), specializing in Right and Political sciences. He also works for the Ministry for Finances and the Banque de France.

The student Habib Thiam is also an accomplished athlete and, between 1954 and 1958, it will be selected 11 times at the international level for the 200 meters (twice champion of France) or the relay 4 X 100 meters.

Political career

From the declaration of independence of June 20th, 1960, it occupies a certain number of stations to the more high level, several times principal private secretary then minister.

Member of the Socialist party, it is elected appointed in 1973. With center of its party he is member of the Political office and person in charge initially of the relations with the press (1969-1975), then international relations (1975-1982).

Succeeding Abdou Diouf which reaches the Presidency, it is named Prime Minister on January 1st 1981, a function which it will occupy until April 3rd 1983. It will then be replaced by Moustapha Niasse. In 1955, Habib Thiam marries Monique Imbert, a Frenchwoman with whom it will have five children. In 1981, Habib Thiam marries Anne Majken Hessner, a former member of Parliament Danish socio-democrat . The couple will have two girls.

After Tinder Cissé Dia, he is President of the National Assembly of 1983 with 1984, before yielding the place to Daouda Sow.

April 8th 1991 it becomes again Prime Minister and 1998 will remain to it until July 3rd , when Mamadou Lamine Loum succeeds to him.
