Gustave Geffroy

Gustave Geffroy , born with Paris on June 1st 1855 and died in Paris the April 4th 1926, is a journalist, critic art, historian and novelist French, and one of the ten founding members of the Académie Goncourt.

Come with Belle-Ile in September 1886 to make an investigation into the prisons of Napoleon III, it meets there by chance the painter Claude Monet whom it admires and with which it binds friendship. In 1897, it publishes Locked up the , where it tells the life of Auguste Blanqui. It will continue thereafter to make criticisms eulogistic of the painter.

Collaborator with the newspaper Justice starting from January 15th, 1880, it meets there Georges Clémenceau, which became a large friend and who appoints it administrator of the Manufacture of the Goblins in 1908, station to which it will remain until his death.

A street of the 13th district of Paris bears its name.
