Gustave Doret

Gustave Doret , (born on September 20th, 1866 with Eagle and dead on April 19th, 1943 with Lausanne) was a musician, leader and Swiss type-setter.

Studies

It is with Berlin that he studies the Violon near Joseph Joachim at the university of music, then with the Conservatoire of Paris near Theodore Dubois and of Jules Massenet.

Its career

Of 1893 at 1895, he is the first chief in the Concerts of the Château of Harcourt.

In 1904, it directs the orchestra of the Comic Opéra.

He will write the partition of the Fêtes of the vine growers of 1905 and 1927 as well as an opera, Armaillis in 1900 and the oratorio the seven words of Christ in 1895, of a style close to Massenet.

Its name is related to the Théâtre of Jorat of Mézières, for which it signed many incidental musics: Aliénor (1910), the Four Times Night (1910), Such (1914), the Maidservant of Evolène (1937).

Established in 1990 by the Cantonal and University Library of Lausanne, its catalog includes nearly 400 compositions. He is regarded as the principal popular cantor of the French-speaking Switzerland with Emile Jaques-Dalcroze and Joseph Bovet.
