Gustave Abel
Gustave Abel is one of the more former members of honor of the French federation of speleology.
This speleologist was an assiduous explorer of the Austrian caves .
He had been registered like active member of the Spéléo-club of France in 1936, i.e. the year even where Robert of Jolly transformed this association into speleological Company of France.
He had taken an active share in the organization of the first international Congress of speleology in Paris in 1953.
It seems that its speleological vocation was born very early, towards the old one six years, i.e. in 1906, lorsque' he visits the Cave of Han-on-Injures in Belgium.
He developed a system of land register for the Austrian and German caves. He would have explored more than 300 cavities including 150 discovered by its care.
He studied the hydrological operation of the alpine karsts, within the framework of work intended to improve the drinking water supply of the town of Salzburg.
