Guillaume de Montfort
One knows only few things about Guillaume de Hainaut , the first lord of Montfort-l' Amaury. The only family certainty are that he was grandson of the count Régnier II and cousin of Régnier IV. After the continual rebellions of Régnier III and its punishment and its exile by Brunon of Cologne, the family members of Hainaut took refuge at the court of France.
Robert II the piles, king de France charged it with building two fortresses in forest of Yvelines, in order to defend the royal field against the count de Blois. One will be built with Épernon, the other more in north, on a natural hillock of which it will make clear the neighborhoods, in order to allow the installation of peasants. This second fortress will take the name of Montfort. Several of its successors having the first name of Amaury, the new city will take thereafter the name of Montfort-l' Amaury.
He became the lord of the manor of Montfort and, having married a girl of Hugues of Beauvais, administrator of the country of Yvelines, will succeed to him when this last is assassinated. He succeeds in making hereditary the new seigniory, and will transmit it to his/her son Amaury Ier
