Guelph is a Canadian city south-west of the Ontario.
Description
Located at approximately 100 km in the west of Toronto, with the intersection of the Ontarian provincial highways 6 and 7, the town of Guelph had a population of 125.872 inhabitants in 2004; with the suburbs, the total climbs with 155.635 inhabitants.The city was founded the April 23rd 1827 and was selected to be the general headquarter of the Compagnie of Canada, a British firm of development, by its superintendant Canadian John Galt (itself also novelist). This last drew the city so that it resembles a European downtown area and baptized it " Guelph" according to the Maison of Guelph, family of origin of the king George IV, then monarch, which was worth at the city its nickname of " city royale".
However, Galt had to wait until the railway of the Grand Trunk joins the town of Toronto in 1856 so that its imposing plan was fully carried out; the municipality became officially city in 1879.

Université of Guelph is one of the complete universities of Canada. It is acclaimed for its hearth on sciences of life such as the agriculture and sciences of the food. The college of Conestoga has a small campus in Guelph.
