Guarouba guarouba

The Conure gilded ( Guarouba guarouba (Gmelin)), as its name indicates it, raises a sharp primarily yellow plumage. This species is sometimes included in the kind Aratinga .

Description

Conure gilded presents a sharp yellow plumage decorated by primary and secondary covers dark green. The ocular circles are white, the nozzle grisâtre, the irises brown and the pink legs.

This bird measures nearly 34 cm.

The youthful ones are green olive instead of yellow.

Habitat

Conure gilded people tropical primary forests.

Behavior

This bird is rather erratic.

Food

Conure gilded consumes fruits, bays, seeds and nuts.

Reproduction

This species would reproduce end of the autumn at the beginning of the winter but this information requires confirmation.

Distribution

Conure gilded is endemic of Brazilian Amazonia. It is in danger of extinction.

Captivity

In captivity, the reproductive couples are very few. One of them lives in Busch Garden de Tampa (Florida) and holds the record of procreation with 30 young people including 5 raised by the parents.
