Guédé (Senegal)

Guédé is a village of the north of the Senegal, located on the island at Morfil, near left bank of the Fleuve Senegal.

History

Guédé-building site developed beside the traditional village Guédé-Village. It was created in 1932 by the colonial administration to try out the culture of rice.

Administration

Guédé belongs to the rural Communauté of Guédé of the Département of Podor, in the Région of Saint-Louis.

Geography

The village is with a score of kilometers of Podor.

The closest localities are Mbantou, Kope, Nangango, Ouro Boubou, Aniam Touguel and Mboyo.

Population

According to the PEPAM (Programme of drinking water and cleansing of the Millenium), Guédé Village counts 1.633 people and 190 households. Guédé Chantier is a little larger, with 3.031 inhabitants for 353 households.

The urinary Bilharziose made its appearance in the Années 1980. The ignorance of the populations of the mode of transmission and the risks related to this disease is a serious medical concern that certain programs without scale try to fight. A new intestinal form of bilharziose is making its appearance in the zone.

Economic activities

The village developed an expertise in the agricultural domain. After the independence occurred in 1960, the Senegalese State developed in collaboration with the Popular republic of China and Formosa of the programs of framing of the peasants. Institutional programs were thus implemented within the framework of the Organization of installation of the Valley, then of OMVS (Organization of the development of the Senegal river), then of the SAED (Company of installation of water of the delta)

The local resources are thus before very agricultural. One cultivates there in particular the millet, rice, onions, tomatos and the Gombo S.

Guédé shelters a small mosque omarienne in Banco, of Sudanese style, visited by the tourists who go in the area.
