Grozny

Grozny (in Russian Гро́зный , meaning terrible, in Tchétchène: Соьлж-ГІала (Solj Ghaala)) is the capital of the Republic of Chetchnia within the Fédération of Russia.

With the origne, the fortress of Groznaïa was built in 1818 by the Russian general Alexandre Ermolov and kept the Caucasian steps of the Empire. The city founded from this same was extremely held by the Cossacks.

In 1870, it taken the name of Grozny which means “Terrible” in Russian. The city made primarily its great strides only at the time Soviet.

In the years 1990, the capital was semi-officially named “Djokhar-Kala” by the separatists tchetchenes, faithful to their president Djokhar Doudaïev, assassinated, in 1995.

Grozny underwent two wars:

The government of Chetchnia sits at Grozny. Its general headquarter was attacked the December 27th 2002 by the rebels tchetchenes.

The May 9th 2004, Akhmad Kadyrov, pro-federal president of Chetchnia, as well as the president of the Parliament, were killed by a mine of the terrorists dissimulated in the platform of the Dynamo stage at the time of the parade celebrating the 49e birthday of the victory over the Nazisme.

A recent plan of rebuilding of Grozny and Chetchnia were adopted by the Russian government, over one period estimated at 30 years. The priorities of rebuilding were reiterated by the Russian president Vladimir Poutine at the time of her short speech at the new Parliament tchetchene elected by the vote for all on November 27th 2005.

The December 14th 2005, Parliament of Chetchnia, dominated by the 58 deputies of " plain Russia " , the party of Vladimir Poutine, proposes to rename the Grozny capital in “Akhmad-Kala” (town of Akhmad), in homage to president Akhmad Kadyrov.

An avenue of Grozny bears already the name of Kadyrov as well as a decorated central place of a statue to its effigy.

Rebuilding

Since the beginning of 2006, the civil and residential rebuilding of Grozny, carried out under the direct supervision of Ramzan Kadyrov and financed mainly by its foundation whose financing comes from the taxes and social security deduction near the business men tchetchenes, took a fulgurating acceleration. The Prime Minister, who goes regularly on the building sites, required in September 2006 that the downtown area is entirely deprived of the traces of war. The airport of Grozny, Checheno-Ingushetia (code AITA: the GRV), largest in the Caucasus of North, was reopened in October 2006, entirely renovated, with a highway which carries out to it since the capital. However, of many people still live in the buildings devastated by the bombardments and which are often likely to crumble.
