Grostenquin

Grostenquin is a common French located in the department of the the Moselle and the basin of life of the Moselle-is.

Geography

With the crossing of the Castle-Saline roads of Sarreguemines to and of Sarralbe to Faulquemont; to 8.700 km of the station of Morhange; to 32.080 km in the south-west of Forbach.

Teaching

  • 1844 : two schools of 25 boys and 30 girls.
  • 1956: two schools with 66 pupils.
  • 2007: a nursery school with 2 classes; an elementary school with 2 classes.

Catholic worship

  • Grostenquin is from time immemorial parish of the archpriest of Morhange; Appendices: Bertring, Linstroff and until in 1804, Erstroff.
  • the church dedicated to St Jean-Baptiste (June 24th), was rebuilt in 1867. During the demolition of the old church in 1863, one found the tomb of a Swedish colonel there.
  • a vault dedicated to Saint Blaise (February 3rd) located at Bertring place known as: Klausenberg
  • a counterpart of the " cave of Lourdes" located at Bertring place known as: Klausenberg
  • great festival on February 3rd at the time of the saint Blaise with blessing of the throats and the small-breads
  • a vault in ruins dedicated to saint Gave located at Linstroff (renovation project in progress)

Origin of the name

The name of Grostenquin comes from the deformation of the Germanic expression Gross Tännschen which means large fir tree.

Emmigres during the Revolution

Second world war

Occupation of the commune by the German troops on June 16th, 1940. Bombardment of the village on June 14th, 1940 (5 destroyed victims, 62 houses). Release by the Americans on November 19th, 1944. Evacuation with Morhange after the arrival of the troops américainesdu November 20th at December 10th, 1944. Large-Tenquin Military Cross 39/45 is titular.
