Greater Antilles
Four islands of the the Antilles form the group of the Greater Antilles named thus by opposition with the group of the Lesser Antilles. It acts by order of size of the islands of: Cuba, Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic), the Jamaica and Puerto Rico. They alone cover 90% of the joined together surface of all the islands of the Antilles. By convenience, some add to it the archipelago of the the Bahamas.
Consequently of the history of the Colonization, the basic language on three of the four islands is the Spanish .
Geography
- the highest top is the Pic Duarte (3087 m) which is on Hispaniola.
- the underwater Fosse deepest of the Atlantic Ocean (- 9210 m) is located in Northern edge of Puerto Rico.
- the terrestrial Dépression most important is the salted lake of Enriquillo located at (- 44 m) partly south-western of the Dominican Republic.

Ethnology
- Their population is as a majority of African black origin more or less métissée of Europeans. The inhabitants assert of a cultural community inter islands known as " creole ".
Climate
On the littoral, the heat tropical Climat is softened by the winds rather constant Alizés throughout the year. These winds are only stopped by the effect of Tempête S on the Atlantic Ocean. Inside the grounds, the climate is hotter. With altitude, moisture increases and the températuer decreases. There are two types of seasons:- the Saison dries is fraiche (from December to June), known as period of the Lent.
- the wet Saison is hot (from June to December), known as cyclonic period .
