Graulhet

Graulhet is a common French, located in the department of the Tarn and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Its inhabitants is called Graulhetois (or Graulhetous in Occitan).

Located on Dadou it is the third city of the Tarn, with 12.982 inhabitants (Graulhetois). Member of the the Community of Communes Tarn & Dadou.

Geography

Graulhet, village born on a rock small island between the Dadou, the Brook of Verdaussou and the Marécage S of the Jordan, located in the middle of the Tarn at equal distance of Castrate and Albi.

History

At the origin of the name of the city: that of “Granolha” translation of Frog of which the number was impressive with the doors of the village in this time of marshes and other brooks (retained by Mistral in its Dictionnaire Provençal)

True local culture since centuries, the work of the Cuir made of Graulhet the capital of sheepskin, leather primarily used for the lining of the Chaussure S. It remains today, the greatest French center of Mégisserie: the Tanning small Skin X.

  • Castle of Lézignac (17th century.)
  • Bridge Old, classified Historic building. Built in 1244, it allowed a communication between the primitive borough and the new St-Jean district where little by little Tannerie S settled on Right Bank of Dadou.

  • House of the Trades of leather: visit of old a Mégisserie, the various stages of the transformation of leather, skin with the objects manufactured in Cuir.
