Biography
His/her father was the main thing of the elementary school where it made his schooling. He joined then the Balliol College of Oxford and its first work (a Recueil of Poésie) was published in 1925 before he is graduate. In its Autobiography, it gives many details in connection with its difficult Enfance. After its studies, it launched out in the Journalisme. It became Catholique in 1926 in order to marry Vivien Daryell-Browning, which it did the following year. Its work of Journaliste consisted in writing criticisms of books and films for the Magazine Politique Britannique The Spectator and Co-publishing the Magazine Night and Day , which went bankrupt shortly after the publication of its comments in connection with Shirley Temple (and of the sexual exploitation of its body by the tycoons of the cinema Hollywood IEN).
Its Romance is written in a contemporary and realistic style, often putting in scene characters invaded by the doubt and marked by an uprooted and miserable life. Their doubts are often of religious nature, echoing the ambiguous attitude of the author towards Catholicism. The novels of François Mauriac had an influence on its work.
Throughout its life, Graham Greene was obsessed by the idea to move away from its native United Kingdom, to go towards what it called the places “wild and moved away” from the world. Its voyages gave the opportunity to him to launch out in the Espionnage to the profit of the the United Kingdom (in Sierra Leone, for example). It was recruited within MI6 by famous the Double agent Kim Philby. One finds the characters and the high places colors met then in the pages of his novels. The books of Graham Greene could originally be classified in two principal kinds: Romance thrillers or with suspense such as Brighton Rock , that it described itself as “entertainments”, but which often included a notable share of Philosophie, and purely literary books like Power and the Glory , on which its reputation was built. However, its later works such as the Human factor , Our agent with Havana and a quite quiet American combine the two kinds briskly.
Many of its books were adapted to the cinema, and he wrote also the original Scénario film the Third Man ( The Third Man ) left in 1949. Facetious, it took part in film of François Truffaut, the American night turned in Nice in the role of an English insurance agent. The realizer realized any only with the assembly.
Greene spent the last years of its life in the small town of Corseaux (Suisse) at the edge of the Lac Léman. With its death in 1991, it was buried in the cemetery close to Corsier-sur-Vevey. Even if he never divorced Vivien Daryell-Browning, they separated shortly after the Second world war and, at the time of his death, he lived with Yvonne Cloetta.
The influence of Graham Greene is not extinct with him. In 2000 large the journalist American Gloria Emerson wrote a novel entitled " Loving Graham Greene" , inspired partly by a maintenance which the English writer had granted to him to Antibes in March 1978. This novel, whose principal subject is the beginning of the Algerian civil war of the years 1990, and the impotence of the Western good wills to include/understand it, constitutes a vibrating homage to Graham Greene as a committed writer. This book was translated and published into French in 2007.
