Grímr Kamban
Grímur Kamban ( Grímr Kamban as old man norrois) is according to the saga the Faroese ones, the first man to pose the foot on the Faroe Islands.
The saga says that a Norwegian Viking, wanted to escape tyranny from the king Harald Ier from Norway and decided to settle on these islands. However, other sources say that it arrived before the people fleeing the tyranny of king Harald Ier of Norway.
It is not known really either if this person were Norwegian because the name Kamban is of origin Celtic. It is thus completely possible that Grímr Kamban came from Ireland (Irish had already discovered the Iceland). It can also be one of first Norwegian christianized by the Irish monks.
Grímr Kamban is well the first " véritable" living islands but the saga is mistaken by saying that it is the first to pose the foot there. Indeed, from the Irish monks passed there front. Dicuil says that monks remained with Faroe in 625.
It is said that Grímr Kamban settled with Funningur. This thesis could be confirmed by the discovery of houses Viking at this place.
