Gour de Tazenat
The Gour de Tazenat is a volcanic Lac of origin which marks the northern limit of the Chaîne of Puys. It is located in the commune of Coal-scuttle-the-Old women (Canton of Manzat), in the French department of the Puy-de-Dôme. Geologically, it is about a Maar.
The lake has a depth noted in diving teak (Trimix), of almost 90 meters. Its banks, except in north and the North-East, are timbered and have approximately a 50 meters height. They form a volcanic crescent (in north, is and southern) made up of volcanic ejections (Basalte and blocks of Granite torn off with the basement). The crater of this Volcan should be 66 meters depth and 700 meters diameter on average. It was formed there are 30.000 ans.
On his sides north, one finds a thickness of several meters of volcanic products (Scorie S and Pouzzolane S) to which are mixed pieces of the granitic base torn off at the time of the eruption.
A path of 2,8 kilometers, sometimes dish, sometimes enough escarpé, makes it possible to make the turn of it.
