Gonnosuke Musō

Gonnosuke Musō (夢想權之助勝吉, Musō Gonnosuke ) is a Samurai Japanese 17th century, founder of the school Koryu of OJ-jutsu Shintō Musō-ryū. It is famous for its duel with Musashi Miyamoto.

According to the tradition, Gonnosuke indeed faced in duel the best Japanese fencer, Musashi Miyamoto. Gonnosuke was armed D `a jintachi and Musashi with sound daisho (together of two sabers: a length and a court). Musashi would have overcome Gonnosuke by blocking an attack of this last with its famous technique jujidome (blocking in cross).

Afterwards with this defeat, Gonosuke would have been exiled during 37 days on the Mont Homan to meditate there, lorsqu `one night, a vision D `a teenager dreams some brought the solution to him while indicating to him to strike with the Solar plexus: “Finds the solar plexus with a round stick. ”

Gonnosuke thus created a new weapon: jō, stick more short than bô (approximately 1,28m) which joined together at the same time the techniques D `tuck of the yari (lance), sweepings of the Naginata (Japanese halberd) and strike them bō (stick).

Gonnosuke went one second time towards Musashi and in the duel which S `followed from there, the jō overrode the sabers, the jujidome of Musashi having been countered by the jō of Gonnosuke.

Thereafter, Gonnosuke codified 64 basic techniques in jojutsu, thus melting the school Shintō Musō-ryū.
