Gold island

The islands of Hyères, attached to very the Département of the VAr are also called the islands of Gold . --------------------------------------------- The island of Gold is a private island located at the east of Saint-Raphaël, close to the course of Dramont. This rock small island, composed of russet-red rocks, is surmounted by a turn with the moyenâgeuse pace which one says that it would have inspired Hergé for the album of Tintin the Black Island .

History

In 1897, the State put on sale at the biddings the rock called the Gold island, Mr. Sergent acquired for 280 francs of it. To the court of part of chart, the rock returned to the Médecin Auguste Lutaud which undertook at the beginning of the 20th century the construction of a tower sarrazine. Satisfied with the result, it autoproclama in 1913 Auguste Ier, king of the Gold island and organized a sumptuous festival. In 1961, the island was sold to François Bureau, former naval officer which renovated the tower and until its death in 1994 lived it. The Island always belongs to this family and became a site appreciated within the framework of the practice of the Plongée underwater.
