Glacier of Calderone
The glacier of Calderone is located on the conch of the north-eastern slope of Corno Grande in the the Abruzzi in Italy, between 2680 meters and 2870 meters of altitude.
It is the southernmost glacier of Europe and the only one of the the Apennines. Its surface is of 5 hectares, its depth equal to 30 meters. This small glacier is threatened of disappearance because of climate warming: it lost 420000 cubic meters between 1929 and 1940. However it is one of the most important attractions of the national park of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga. ----
