Giuseppe Giovanni Antonio Meneghini

Giuseppe Giovanni Antonio Meneghini is a Naturaliste and a Italian geologist , born in 1811 with Padoue and died in 1889 with Pisa.

Biography

Giuseppe Giovanni Antonio Meneghini is graduate of medicine to the Université of Padoue in 1834. In 1835, he becomes assistant with the pulpit of botany, in 1839, ordinary professor of preparatory sciences for the surgery. In 1848, its role in the revolutionary movement makes him lose its station at the university of Padoue.

Meneghini settles in Pisa where it is named, in 1849, professor of Minéralogie and Géologie and director of the Muséum of the university of the city. It replaces there Leopoldo Pilla (1805-1848) which lost the life in the Bataille of Curtatone which opposes 5.000 volunteers (mainly students of the universities of Tuscany) to 30.000 Austrian soldiers.

Meneghini founds the geological school of Pisa and receives the physical pulpit of geography later two years in 1851. In 1870, he becomes director of the natural history museum of Pisa. In 1874, he is ordinary professor of geology of Pisa
