Giuliano Amato

Giuliano Amato (born the May 13rd 1938 with Turin, in the Piedmont -) is a Politician Italy N, Minister of Interior Department of the Gouvernement Romano Prodi II since 2006. It directed the Groupe Amato which made it possible to lead to the project of modifying Traité on June 23rd, 2007, on the basis of project deposited on June 4th.

Biography

Born in Turin, but having grown in Tuscan, Giuliano Amato follow studies of right to the university Sant' Anna of Pisa, where it obtains its license in right in 1960. It leaves then to the the United States, to continue its studies with the Faculty of Law of the Columbia University to New York where it obtains in 1963, a master of constitutional Law compared.

Professor of Public law to the University Sapienza of Rome, Giuliano Amato decides to launch out, at the beginning of the Années 1980 in a political career. He adheres to late the Italian Socialist party, for which he was elected appointed of 1983 with 1994. After the dissolution of the party, it adheres in 1997 to the trust of center-left Ulivo (the olive-tree), remaining with the outside of the parties. He was re-elected appointed with the elections of 2006.

Under-secretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of 1983 with 1987 in 1st and the 2nd Craxi government, Minister of Finances of 1987 with 1989. Minister for the Reforms in 1998, it replaces the following year with the ministry of Treasure Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, elected president of the Republic.

Giuliano Amato exerted the functions of president of the Council of Ministers of Italy twice:

He was vice-president of the European Convention of 2002 at June 2003, indicated in December 2001, by the European Council of Laeken.

The November 4th 2006, it obtains the academic Qualification of Honorary doctor of the Université of Neuchâtel in Suisse at the time of the ceremony of Dies Academicus.

Giuliano Amato is also administrator of the Think tank the Friends of Europe , member of the council of the directors of the Fondation Ditchley since 1994. According to this source, he was also president of the Italian branch of the Institut Aspen of 1992 to 1994, and president of the council of the directors of the American branch of Institu Aspen.
