Giovanni Gronchi
Giovanni Gronchi (September 10th 1887, Pontedera, Pisa, - October 17th 1978, Rome) is an Italian politician , which was president of the Italian Republic of 1955 with 1962.
Graduate in letters at the Teacher training school of Pisa, professor of college. It was one of the founder of the Partito Popolare, of which it was appointed of 1919 with 1926. The October 28th 1922 it entered the government of Benito Mussolini as an under-secretary to industry and trade. Resigner in August 1925 after the decision of Mussolini to found the dictatorship, it was deposed of his mandate of deputy in 1926. During Fascism it is excluded from teaching and followed the occupation of sales agent and then of administrator of company. It was one of the founders of the Christian Democrat in 1944. Leader of the left of the party, Minister of Industry of 1944 with 1946, appointed 1946 with 1955, he was president of the House of Commons of 1948 with 1955. He was elected president of the Republic thanks to a transverse agreement between the line of his party, the right parties and the left parties. From 1962 he was senator with life as a former president of the Republic.
