Agamben is a large reader of Walter Benjamin of which it is, in Italy, the editor of complete works, also of Jacob Taubes, two authors of most outstanding for him, after its formation with and around Heidegger, as of Michel Foucault whose work constitutes for him a reference. Its works tackle rather various questions, concerning the language, the theology of Paul under the influence of work of Taubes, the animal and the man, in the line of Heidegger, the desire, passions, after Aristote and Freud.

Political philosophy

It develops a political Philosophie, started in its major work “ Homo Sacer ”, in several volumes, where it studies mainly the question of the right and the going beyond of the right (taking again this topic with Benjamin) and of the sovereign capacity. Of this last still it takes up the idea that the state of exception tends to becoming indistinguishable normal situation, and it confronts thus Benjamin and Carl Schmitt. Of Foucault it takes again the topic of the Biopolitique, that is to say the ambition which is that of the contemporary capacity, to deal with intervening until in the life of the subjects and managing the citizens like the simple alive ones. By doing this it establishes a line of continuity between the design of the policy of the Nazis and that of the contemporary occident.
